Community Events August 17-23, 2018

The North Atlanta area is growing by leaps and bounds.  However, there is opportunity to make connections through great community interaction!  From farmer’s markets to high school football games and 5k races, we’re thankful for the connected communities we live in.

Alpharetta Community Events:

Thursday, 8/23/18 The Mayor’s Challenge 5k Race is Alpharetta’s premier corporate community event, attracting thousands of local employees, residents & runners. Friday, August 10

Suwanee – The fifth installment of Suwanee’s popular SculpTour temporary sculpture exhibition  encompasses 20 pieces, as well as 8 additional permanent exhibits. This walkable outdoor exhibit of original sculptures is centered around Suwanee’s Town Green, a great place for lunch, a drink, or just spending the day at the park. Lawrenceville – While Lawrenceville is the oldest city in Metro Atlanta, for many years it was a sleepy suburban Southern town. With the growth and development of the metro area, much of historic downtown Lawrenceville was renovated at the turn of the century. These renovations awakened the sleeping ghosts, and sparked increased reports of paranormal activity, thus setting the stage for Lawrenceville, GA Ghost Tours. Weekend Activities August 3-5, 2018

Alpharetta – Old Soldier’s Day Parade.  The City of Alpharetta and American Legion Post 201 hosts the Annual Old Soldiers Day Parade. The parade honors our country’s war veterans and recognizes their service to our country. The City band will begin on Roswell St at 9:15 a.m., the Memorial service at 10:00 a.m. and the parade begins at 10:30 a.m. The parade ends at American Legion Post 201 on Wills Road where there will be free Varsity hotdogs, drinks and plenty of activities. Atlanta Open Tennis – Now in its 14th season, the world’s best players on the WTA and ATP World Tour are coming together for the US Open Series. Alpharetta – Derby Days – This is a Local Georgia Hunter Jumper rated show. Riders come from all over the Southeast to participate and compete in Hunter and Jumper classes and to be judged by Nationally ranked Judges from throughout the United States. This riders and their horses compete for ribbons and for year in awards in their areas of expertise. Marietta – The Marietta community will again be “dancing in the street” during the Glover Park Concert Series. Ellijay – Chances are, you’ve probably been to Amicalola Falls.  But, have you heard of  Jack’s River Falls?  In the Cohutta Wilderness Area, Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine named Jack’s River Falls one of the Best Swimming Holes to Jump Into This Summer.  A few miles of hiking and you can enjoy the falls and a refreshing pool. If you are feeling daring, jump off the high point of the falls, which looms 20 feet high.
